  • She was a member of 5 Section V Championship teams: 4 in softball and 1 in basketball.
  • On May 10th 1999 she pitched a perfect game: 21 up and 21 down.
  • In 2000 she was selected as the Section V Tournament MVP as well as 1st Team All State in softball.
  • In the 2000 Section V Playoffs she pitched all 4 games to the championship while not giving up a single run and she had 4 straight shut-outs.
  • She accepted a scholarship to play softball at Division 1 St. Bonaventure where she suffered a career ending injury.
  • In her senior year she was recognized as the top female athlete in the class as well as winning the Sid Miles Athlete Award.

Chris Regan

  • Chris was an extremely gifted baseball player. He had a brilliant high school career earning 1st Team All State his senior year as a catcher.
  • Set the High School doubles record in one season (18) which is also the current Section V record.
  • Had an outstanding career at Messiah where he set several baseball records including most career RBIs, most doubles in one season, and most extra base hits in one season.
  • In college he was chosen to the 1st Team All Conference Team twice and was the  MVP of the conference in 2004.
  • During summer ball he played for the Wellsville Nitros Baseball Team where he led the team in hitting in 2003 and 2004. He was chosen the team's MVP in both years.

  • Was named MVP of 3 consecutive Section V Class C Finals in 3 different sports: 2001 Softball, 2001 Soccer (Defense), & 2002 Basketball
  • 2002 Sid Miles Award for WHS outstanding athlete
  • Graduated as WHS all-time leader in assists (soccer)
  • Named to multiple Expressway Conference All-Star teams in basketball, soccer & softball. Spectator Great 8 1st Team (basketball), All New York State 2nd Team (softball)
  • Her combination of athletic talent and competitive spirit place her among the all-time great WHS female athletes.

  • She had an outstanding high school career in swimming where she was honored with the team MVP for three consecutive years.
  • Upon graduation she held 6 high school records in girls swimming.
  • She currently holds 3 swimming records at SUNY Cortland.
  • In 2006 she was chosen as a College All American on the 200 Freestyle Relay Team.
  • She was the George Breea Award winner in 2007 for recognition of outstanding achievement at Cortland.
  • While at Cortland she made the SUNYAC All Academic Team for four years.

  • She was a star in both basketball and soccer receiving several All Star awards in her high school career.
  • In basketball she was a starter on two consecutive teams that won back to back sectional titles.
  • At Alfred State in 2003 in the sport of soccer, she had 20 goals and 7 assists which landed her on the Western Conference All Star Team.
  • The next year she even did better scoring 23 goals with 5 assists.  Once again she was chosen to the Western Conference All Star Team as well as making 2nd Team All Region.
  • She will always be remembered as an outstanding athlete that put the team first ahead of personal achievements.

  • She was a member of two Section V Basketball Teams in 2002 & 2003.
  • She was the MVP of the Section V Basketball playoffs in 2003.
  • She was selected as the Expressway Conference MVP her senior year in basketball.
  • Played 2 years on the Alfred State basketball team where she was selected MVP on defense in 2004.
  • Recognized as an outstanding leader. She was chosen captain of her basketball teams in 2002 & 2003. 

David Perkins

  • He was recognized as a gifted athlete starting at the varsity level as a freshman in both football and baseball.
  • In the sport of football he still holds the single season rushing record of 1715 yards in his senior year of 2002.
  • In football he was selected as the Section V player of the week 4 times as well as a two time conference All Star and first time Big 30 his senior year.
  • In baseball he still holds the career record for the highest batting average at .464, most hits at 129 most doubles with 35 and most home runs with 8. 
  • In baseball he was chosen as a conference All Star 3 times and led his team to the 2001 Section V Championship.

Ian Cannon

  • In the sport of soccer he was an outstanding defender anchoring a defense that gave up a school record 8 goals against in 2005.
  • He was a team captain of the 2004 and 2005 Boys Track Team that won back to back sectional championships.
  • For three years he was chosen to participate in the Super 8 Track meet which represents the best of the best in the Big 30 area.
  • Ian captured the 110 Hurdle Section V Championship his junior and senior years.
  • In 2005 he broke the school record in the 110 hurdles that had existed for thirty years.
  • He played a major role in the Lions going undefeated in dual meets over a 3 year period in track and field.

  • An excellent athlete who made All League in three different sports of soccer, basketball and golf.
  • In his senior year he led his basketball team in three point field goal percentage and was chosen as a 2nd Team Great 8 Player.
  • In 2004 as the goalkeeper in soccer he anchored the defense that had 15 shut outs and gave up only 8 goals in 20 games, school records that may stand for a long time.
  • For his soccer career his 31 shutouts as a goalie is a record that may never be broken.
  • Kevin is a quiet person that let his play speak volumes for his commitment to excellence.

Brady Miles

  • Currently holds the career scoring record in soccer with 142 points (56 goals, 30 assists).
  • Set a single game scoring record in soccer by scoring six goals on Sept. 19, 2004.
  • Played first base on the gold medal baseball team at the New York State Empire State Games during the summer of 2004.
  • Was selected to play in the Greater Rochester Select Senior Game in soccer in the Fall of 2004.
  • Started at second base on the High School Sectional Baseball Championship Team in 2005 when he had a .383 batting average.
  • Made the Expressway All Star Team in baseball and soccer for two straight years.

Arielle Szabo

  • Recognized as one of the best athletes to ever play sports in Wellsville.  She started on 3 varsity sports as an 8th grader: soccer, basketball, and softball.
  • She was a starter on four Section V championship teams: two in basketball and one each in softball and track.
  • In the sport of basketball she scored a 1154 points while being named to several All Star Teams.
  • In soccer she had 73 career goals and led all Section V Class B schools in scoring in her junior and senior years.
  • In her senior year after never playing the sport of track, she joined the program and won the Section V title in the high jump event.

  • Named to the Spectator Great 8 First Team for basketball his junior and senior years.
  • In high school basketball he scored over 900 points and accumulated over 1000 rebounds.
  • He was selected to the Section V All Tournament Team for basketball for three consecutive years (2003, 2004, & 2005).
  • By many he is recognized as the best sweeper to ever play the game of soccer at WHS. (Current school record of fewer goals allowed, 8 in 2004).
  • In 2005 he led his high school baseball team in the postseason by batting .500 as they won the Section V championship.
  • He was truly a three sport star in soccer, basketball, and baseball during his high school career.

  • In his senior year he was chosen as the Big 30 Player of the Year in basketball. The only Wellsville player to ever receive the award.
  • In 2005 he was chosen as the Spectator Great 8 & Class B Birdseye Player of the Year in basketball.
  • Went on to play college basketball for 3 years with an outstanding career at R.I.T.
  • In baseball his senior year he was selected to the New York State 1st Team while hitting .424, with 22 RBIs and 26 stolen bases.
  • Starting center fielder on the 2005 Section V Baseball Championship Team when he was chosen MVP of the tournament.
  • In 2005 he was presented the Sid Miles Award as the top male athlete in the Wellsville High School.

Damon Arnold

  • In high school he is recognized as one of the best short stops in school history.
  • He received several baseball awards during his career, but none bigger than being named to the all state team his senior year.
  • At Finger Lakes Community College in 2008 he was chosen to the All Conference and All Regional Team in baseball.
  • While at Cortland State in 2010,  he was the starting shortstop on their Regional Championship Team that finished 2nd in the nation at the D-3 College World Series.
  • He has pursued his love for the game by coaching at the college level, currently serving on the baseball staff at powerful St. John Fisher.

Taylor Houseman

  • She had an outstanding career in high school swimming where she currently holds 4 school records.
  • Her best was yet to come as she became a two time All American in swimming at SUNY Cortland.
  • At Cortland her senior year she won the Grace Mowalt Award as the team's most outstanding senior swimmer in academics & SUNYAC performance.
  • Twice she was chosen for the Red Letter Award given out to the most valuable performer on the Cortland Swim Team in 2008 and 2010.
  • She holds four records at SUNY Cortland in swimming and in 2010 she set the SUNYAC Conference record in the 200 yard breaststroke.

  • She was recognized as a true superstar in high school excelling at three different sports: Soccer, Basketball and Softball.
  • In these sports she was a starter on each team during her four years, winning several honors & awards.
  • In the sport of basketball, she was the Big 30 scoring champion for the girls with a 22.8 points per game average, netting a total of 501 points.
  • She is a member of the girls 1,000 Point Club scoring 1,116 points in her High School career.
  • In High School Soccer she was the starting goalie for three years with 25 shutouts as well as being Team MVP on Defense each year.
  • At Alfred State she continued her outstanding career in Soccer and Basketball. Her freshman year she was the women's soccer MVP and averaged over 14 points per game in basketball, making the NJCAA All American 3rd team.

  • He still holds the school record in basketball with 1080 points in his career & 45 points in one game.
  • As a two time selection to the Great 8 Basketball Team, he was chosen the MVP of this team in his senior year.
  • Averaging 21.4 points a game his senior year, he received the Gary Grassi Memorial for leading the Big 30 Area in scoring.
  • For three consecutive years he was chosen for the Section V All Tournament Basketball Team.
  • In the sport of soccer, he was the starting goalie on the 2007 sectional championship team.  He still ranks 2nd in school history with 13 shutouts in one season.
  • In his senior year he was chosen for the Sid Miles Award as the school's Best Male Athlete.

Alex Foster

  • In soccer he was the anchor on the defense that gave up only 13 goals in 22 games, and won the Section V title in 2007.
  • In baseball he ended his 4 year career with a .373 avg. and his 282 at bats ranks number one in school history.
  • In 2009 he was selected Baseball Player of the Year in the Big 30 and was selected 2nd team in N.Y. State.
  • A role model to his teammates he was selected as Team Captain his senior year in both sports of soccer and baseball.
  • After H.S. he went on to have a productive baseball career at SUNY @ Fredonia.

Mariam Vonderheide

  • She was a member of section V Championship track teams while winning sectionals twice in the 400 M hurdles and once in the 1600 M relays.
  • In her senior year she set a school record in the 400 M hurdles with a time of 1 minute 5.0 seconds that still exists today.
  • In 2009 she hit the trifecta by winning the 400 M hurdles at the Hornell Invitational, Wellsville Spring Day and The Big 30 Super 8 Invitational.
  • In the sport of soccer in her senior year she established a school record with 21 assists in one season.  A record that will be hard to match.
  • Valedictorian of her class.  She also received the Sid Miles Award as the Top Female Athlete.
  • While at Swarthmore College she played 4 years of soccer having an outstanding career.
