Brody Heaney Selected for 2024 Big 30 All-Star Game

Brody Heaney, a 6'3" 259-lb OL/DL for the Lions, has been selected to play in this year's upcoming Big 30 All-Star game, which includes representatives from both NY and PA. Heaney, who is nearing the end of his senior year, only played 1 season of football, but quickly became an anchor on the offensive line, and was selected to the 2nd-Team All-League all-star squad for his performance. He has elected to pursue business and marketing at Finger Lakes Community College in the Fall, and plans to continue playing volleyball at the collegiate-level.

(4) Wellsville Lions Awarded All-League Honors

Four players from the Wellsville Lions have been selected to receive Section V 8-Man All-League honors for their performance in the 2023 season. Brennen Geffers (So. - QB/DB) and Trenton Green (So. WR/LB) were each selected to receive 1st Team All-League honors, while Brody Heaney (Sr. - OL/DL) and J.J. Howard (Jr. - WR/DB) were each selected to receive 2nd Team All-League honors.

Geffers led the team in both passing (88/161 - 1,053 Yds - 9 TD) and rushing (43 - 329 Yds - 3 TD) in his first year playing QB, while also adding 5 total tackles in reserve defensive play. Green led the team in receiving (31 - 356 Yds - 1 TD), while also adding 36 total tackles, including a team-leading 8 TFL, all in his first year playing the sport.

Conducting the dirty work in the trenches did not produce gaudy statistics for Heaney, but the massive lineman provided consistent attitude to the offensive line, helping to establish the new-look spread offense instituted this season, and also added 5 total tackles in rotational defensive line play, all in his first and only season of football. Howard's offensive production was hindered as he dealt with leg strains from the first day of training camp throughout the entire season, but he still managed to nearly lead the team in receiving (16 - 337 Yds - 3 TD) with a whopping 21.0 Yds/Rec, and also managed to lead the team in total defense (73 Total Tkl - 4 TFL - 1 FF - 2 PDef - 1 Int).

The Lions are looking to build upon this success as the young team heads into an off-season filled with weightlifting, training camps, and team-building events, with hopes of achieving a greater degree of overall team success in 2024.
